Marathon Maniac Chooses New Surrey Marathon for 80th Race!

For most people, running their first marathon is a once in a lifetime experience and an achievement that they will always remember. But for Rick Cooney, his first marathon was just the beginning of his journey into the world of running.

After his father passed away from cancer, Rick decided to make a lifestyle change while raising money for cancer research at the same time. He started competing in the annual Terry Fox Run in his hometown of Sechelt, but quickly found that his natural ability and love for running was pushing him beyond the typical 10-kilometer race. It didn’t take long for Rick to set his sights a little further : in 1999 Rick finished his first half marathon and in 2003 he ran his first marathon.

Since then, Rick has travelled the world following his passion for running. He has finished five of the world’s most competitive marathons: Boston, London, Chicago, New York and Berlin and has even run the original marathon track in Athens.

Now a part of the Marathon Maniacs, Rick will complete his 80th marathon at the inaugural Surrey International World Music Marathon, but he doesn’t plan to stop there. Rick has the ultimate goal of being one of the few people in the world ro run 100 marathons!

If you haven’t already, join Rick and sign-up to compete in the first ever Surrey International World Music Marathon!
