Elizabeth Model, Ironman and chair of the Surrey International World Music Marathon, is encouraging elite runners to sign up for the Surrey Marathon on September 30th.
Model has run 23 marathons and 33 Ironman events across 6 continents, and has the Antarctica Marathon in sight for 2014. She ran her first marathon at 40 and completed her first Ironman at 46. This year alone, Model completed Ironman Brazil and is heading off to complete Ironman France next week.Model checking the clock at the Malaysia Ironman 2008
“My motto is do what you love and you will love what you do,” says Model.
Her call for elite participation comes right on time as the course is now officially Boston Certified.
The course is a double loop, which Model has faced in many Ironman races. In the Surrey Marathon she says the little rise in elevation makes the double loop insignificant, and a less challenging course for those looking to qualify for Boston.
“I love sport, all aspects of it, and that is why I decided to bring it to Surrey,” says Model.
Her dedication to bringing the SIWMM to Surrey comes not only from her passion for sport, but for creating an inclusive event that celebrates the cultural diversity of Surrey.
Model and the SIWMM Board of Directors have been working with enthusiasm on this inaugural event, fuelled by the great support from the City of Surrey and community sponsors such as the title sponsor, Central City. Elizabeth Model and the SIWMM Board invite you to join them at the start line on September 30th at Central City.
